Judicial Decision Triggers National Investigation
Minister Flávio Dino, of the Federal Supreme Court, ordered this Wednesday (30) that the Federal Police and the Attorney General's Office open an inquiry to investigate a series of aggressions against religious images in different regions of Brazil.
The measure was taken after the magistrate identified signs of a sequence of violent acts recorded between March and September, involving vandalism against representations of Catholic saints and Umbanda entities.
Types of Crimes Pointed Out
- Outrage to worship and religious prejudice
- Threats and damage to spiritual practice sites
- Fires, thefts and home invasions
Dino stressed that the interstate repercussions of the episodes require a uniform response from federal authorities.

The determination coincides with the judgment at the Superior Electoral Court on false publications involving Flávio Bolsonaro's family and the patron saint Nossa Senhora Aparecida. Minister André Mendonça argued that his previous decisions did not aim to restrict religious freedom, limiting themselves only to correcting untrue factual statements.
Dino, in turn, had already suspended previous restrictions considering that they could affect the expression of faith during the electoral period.
