STF Decision
On Monday night, the 28th, Minister Luiz Fux of the Federal Supreme Court provisionally suspended his colleague Flávio Dino's decision. As a result, the Superior Electoral Court's (TSE) order to remove posts containing false information about Flávio Bolsonaro is back in force.
What the disinformation claimed
The posts alleged that Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), if elected, intended to strip Nossa Senhora de Aparecida of her title as patron saint of Brazil. The TSE deemed the content false and ordered its removal.
Reversal of the measure
Dino had overturned the TSE order on Sunday, the 27th. Fux, however, reinstated the publications that had been taken down and set a 24-hour deadline for X, Meta, TikTok and Google to comply with the new determination.
Immediate impact
The platforms must now act quickly to avoid fines. The measure reinforces the TSE's role in combating disinformation during the electoral period.
