Heavy rains in southern China and intense cold in the east mark the arrival of the national holiday

Rains intensify and move south

Over the next three days, between September 30 and October 2, a broad band of precipitation advances from western China to the southern regions of Huanghuai, Jiangnan and southern China. Areas of Guizhou and Chongqing are expected to record the highest volumes, with the possibility of strong storms and even torrential rains in isolated spots.

China's Central Meteorological Observatory indicates that the axis of heaviest rains should gradually shift southward, concentrating the largest accumulations in parts of Guizhou and Chongqing.

Day-by-day forecast

Cold advances from the north and breaks records

A strong cold air mass advances from the north to the central-eastern part of the country, bringing sharp temperature drops. After the system passes, the 0 °C line should retreat to northern Hebei and western Heilongjiang on the morning of October 1.

Cities like Taiyuan are expected to see a drop of up to 10 °C in a single day, with highs falling from 26 °C to 20 °C and lows reaching just 1 °C — the lowest value of the second half of the year.

In the south, the heat of up to 35 °C that still persists today in Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan should retreat rapidly starting tomorrow, with the 30 °C line moving southward.

Precautions during the holiday

With the start of the national holiday and increased travel flow, drivers should pay extra attention on wet road sections and reduced visibility. It is recommended to follow updated bulletins and adjust clothing according to the temperature drop.
