Response filed with Supreme Court leadership
Minister Alexandre de Moraes delivered to the presidency of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) a 44-page document in which he forcefully reacts to the messages attributed to him in alleged conversations with former banker Daniel Vorcaro.
In the text, the magistrate calls the disclosed dialogues "fantasies" and "criminal lies", denying any content that could suggest wrongdoing on his part.
Direct attack on a fellow court member
The most explosive point of the statement is the accusation directed at another member of the Court, Justice André Mendonça. According to Moraes, the investigation was steered with the aim of assembling what he describes as an "incriminatory farce".
- The timing chosen — on the eve of the elections — is cited by Moraes as evidence of political motivation;
- The document maintains that the material presented does not withstand technical analysis;
- The filing asks, according to its disclosed content, that the STF Presidency take measures regarding the conduct of the case.
What is at stake
The exchange of accusations between two Supreme Court justices represents an unprecedented escalation of an internal conflict that had been managed with discretion. By turning the disagreement into a formal document, Moraes shifts the discussion from the news arena to the institutional record.
On the other side, the existence of messages attributed to the justice with a person under investigation fuels the debate about limits of action and the preservation of impartiality of the Judiciary — a topic that already dominates part of the national public debate.
Political reading
The explicit mention of the electoral calendar is not accidental. By framing the offensive as a last-minute maneuver, the justice seeks to shift the burden of proof to those who disclosed the material and those conducting the investigation.
It is a strategy of simultaneous political and legal defense:
- On the legal plane, it denies the authenticity and meaning of the conversations;
- On the political plane, it ties the operation to an alleged electoral objective;
- On the institutional plane, it pressures the STF Presidency to rule on the procedure adopted.
Next moves
The tendency is for the filing to be analyzed by the Presidency of the Court, which may either shelve the request or order its referral to another body. Meanwhile, the expectation is that the episode will return to the center of political news in the coming days.
What is taking shape, for now, is a scenario of a war of narratives inside the court itself, with two justices exchanging grave accusations at a moment of maximum sensitivity for the country.
