Compared to the September 23 round, Paes dropped two points, while Ruas rose two. The gap between the two main contenders fell from 13 to 9 points.
Without Garotinho in the race, Paes would reach 35% and Ruas 26%. In the spontaneous poll, Paes registers 23% and Ruas 17%, technically tied within the margin of error.
Second round and voting decision
In the tested second-round scenarios:
- Paes beats Ruas by 43% to 33%
- Paes surpasses Garotinho by 48% to 20%
About 69% of voters say their choice is already defined.

Presidential preferences in the state
In the presidential race among Rio voters, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) has 38% against 31% for Lula (PT). The seven-point difference is outside the margin of error.
