Introduction to the clash
Five candidates for Palácio Guanabara took part in an ideas clash divided into thematic stages. The questions, often posed among the competitors themselves, revealed deep differences on public management and promises for the state.
Topics drawn in the first segment
Public transport opened the discussions. Douglas Ruas pressed Eduardo Paes on Metro Line 3 and the VLT Santos Dumont-Botafogo. Paes justified the priority given to BRTs and terminals, while Ruas accused his rival of shifting focus after the polls.
Employment followed. William Siri defended reindustrialization linked to universities and a Uerj campus in Campo Grande. Paes replied by promising to triple technical education and improve the business environment.
Sanitation and state debt
William Siri and Anthony Garotinho converged in defending the re-nationalization of Cedae and the review of concession contracts. Garotinho also proposed reducing tariffs and questioning charges for unprovided sewage.
On the debt, Garotinho linked the problem to spending and corruption, citing Federal Police investigations. André Marinho countered by highlighting waste and defended independent management from traditional groups.
Education and violence against women
André Marinho questioned Douglas Ruas on the state Ideb. Ruas classified the performance as insufficient and defended civic-military schools with support from reserve military personnel.
In the free block, Douglas Ruas pressed Paes on policies for assisting victims of domestic violence. Paes announced the expansion of the Maria da Penha Patrol and 24-hour police stations.
Regions of the state in focus
Questions drawn by region brought health in the Northwest, tourism on the Costa Verde and security in the Região dos Lagos to the fore. Garotinho presented the idea of “Bope 2.0” to retake areas controlled by crime. Marinho countered with an integrated command center.
Closing and appeals to voters
The candidates ended with direct appeals. Marinho highlighted a high-level team to “turn the page”. Ruas asked for vote 22 to break with the “same old”. Paes criticized “new” candidates who repeat old mistakes. Garotinho urged voters to mark 10 against “institutional rot”.
