TSE Injunction Affects Candidates in Ceará
The minister Floriano de Azevedo Marques, of the Superior Electoral Court, determined this Monday (28) that Roberto Cláudio and Capitão Wagner, both from União Brasil, stop broadcasting electoral propaganda. The decision also prevents the use of public resources still available for the ticket.
The measure remains in effect until the judgment of an appeal questioning the validity of the convention of the União Progressista Federation.
Origin of the Conflict Between Parties
The crisis arose on July 26, when União Brasil and Progressistas approved, in state conventions, support for Elmano de Freitas (PT). On the same day, the federation formed by the two parties decided to join Ciro Gomes' (PSDB) coalition, indicating Roberto Cláudio for vice and Capitão Wagner for the Senate.

Position of TRE-CE and New Interpretation
On August 4, TRE-CE validated the federation's convention by 4 votes to 2. The TSE minister, however, understood that the federation can only decide when there is a divergence between the parties. Since both chose the same side, the federation would have exceeded its limits.
Candidates' Reactions
Capitão Wagner classified the decision as “absurd” and questioned the minister's impartiality. Roberto Cláudio stated that the measure represents “persecution” and an “authoritarian act”.
The broadcast of the coalition's propaganda for the Senate must be interrupted immediately.
