Decision at TST Could End the Strike
The Superior Labor Court decides this Tuesday, starting at 2:30 p.m., whether the strike by employees of Caixa Econômica Federal is legal or abusive. The public bank brought the case to court seeking recognition of the irregularity of the movement, which began on September 10.
In a previous injunction, Minister Maurício Godinho determined that 60% of employees must remain active, since banking services are considered essential. At the same time, he guaranteed the right to strike and set a fine of R$ 100 thousand per union entity in case of non-compliance.
Central Impasse: Medical Agreement
The main point of friction is the change in the values and rules of Saúde Caixa. Bank workers argue that the proposed adjustments would nullify the salary gain of 0.6% above inflation obtained by the category.
Currently, the employee contributes 3.5% of base remuneration and pays R$ 75 per consultation in emergency care. Direct dependents cost R$ 480 monthly, with a cap of 7% of the holder's remuneration.
History of Negotiations
54 rounds of talks were held before the base date of August 31. After private banks and Banco do Brasil reached an agreement, Caixa offered funding of 9% on the payroll from 2027, a proposal that was rejected.
The category defends the return of the 70/30 model (bank pays 70%, employee 30%), which was in force before the 2018 rule of the Temer government, which limited the company's participation to 6.5%.
What Is at Stake in the Judgment
- Recognition or not of the abusiveness of the strike
- Deduction of days not worked
- Definition on the funding of the health plan
- Possibility of immediate return to work
Caixa withdrew its last offer in the judicial process and now asks that the funding remain at 6.5% of the payroll, with differentiated charging by age group.
Alternatives for Clients
Even with partially closed branches, Caixa's digital channels and ATMs continue to operate normally. Clients can pay bills and carry out transactions through these means or at branches of other banks.
