A new step in the Golf's electrification
Volkswagen has started pre-sale of the Golf Hybrid R-Line in Germany, with a starting price of 41,400 euros. The new model occupies a strategic space in the lineup: it sits above the mild-hybrid eTSI and below the eHybrid and GTE variants, which rely on external charging.
In practice, the automaker offers an intermediate alternative for those who want real electrification but without the routine of plugging the car into a socket.
How the mechanical setup works
Under the hood, the Golf Hybrid R-Line combines a 1.5 TSI engine with an electric system powered by a 1.6 kWh battery. The result is a combined output of 170 horsepower.
This arrangement allows the vehicle to run in electric mode in specific situations — such as maneuvering and low speeds — helping to reduce fuel consumption.
Fuel consumption and efficiency
According to data released by the manufacturer, the model can achieve up to 21.7 km/l. The figure places the version among the most efficient in the Golf family, without sacrificing performance.
- Engine: 1.5 TSI combined with electric system
- Combined output: 170 hp
- Battery: 1.6 kWh
- Declared consumption: up to 21.7 km/l
- Price in Germany: 41,400 euros
Positioning in the range
Volkswagen's strategy is clear: to cover different levels of electrification within a single model. While the eTSI acts as a mild hybrid, without major gains in electric range, the Hybrid R-Line delivers a greater dose of electric assistance.
The eHybrid and GTE versions, meanwhile, remain plug-in options, aimed at those who have access to charging and seek greater range in electric mode.
What to expect
With pre-sale already open in Germany, the Golf Hybrid R-Line reinforces the brand's bet on transition solutions. The arrival in other markets, including Brazil, has not yet been officially confirmed by Volkswagen.
